NERC set to sanction seven DisCos

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has warned electricity consumers against paying for electricity distribution infrastructure like transformers, cables, or poles.

In a statement shared along with a video on X on Tuesday, NERC emphasized that it is the responsibility of distribution companies to provide these materials, not the consumers.

“Is your distribution company expecting you to buy transformers, cables, or poles? Don’t! It is the DisCo’s obligation, not yours!” NERC stated emphatically.

The regulatory body urged consumers to report any instances where they are coerced into purchasing these materials or experience delays in their provision by the distribution companies.

“Report any coercion to purchase, or delays in providing these materials to NERC for prompt action,” the statement added.

NERC assured the public that it would act quickly upon receiving such complaints. To make reporting easier, NERC has set up a dedicated email and phone number for issues related to network investments.

“A dedicated email and phone number have been set up to address issues relating to investments in the network as follows: [email protected] 07074865354,” NERC stated.
