The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for an unidentified welding apprentice accused of stealing gates worth approximately N300,000 from his trainer’s shop in Ita-Sanni, Ogijo, within the Sagamu Local Government Area.
According to the PUNCH, a police source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that the incident came to light after several suspects were detained during an investigation.
The welding trainer, Moshood Odetunde, discovered the theft of two unfinished iron gates valued at N300,000 upon arriving at his shop.
Odetunde promptly reported the theft to the Ogijo Police Division. Acting on credible information, the police arrested Jemilu Monso at a motor park, where he was caught loading a truck with the stolen gates. Monso intended to transport the gates to the northern part of the country.
During interrogation, Monso claimed innocence, revealing that he bought the gates from a man named Suleiman Ibrahim. The police subsequently arrested Ibrahim, who stated that he purchased the gates from one of Odetunde’s apprentices.
The suspects remain in police custody as efforts continue to locate and apprehend the accused apprentice for further investigation.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the ongoing investigation.
Odutola said “Efforts are on to apprehend the said apprentice for a discreet investigation. After it is concluded, the suspects will be arraigned in court for prosecution.”
In related news, it was also reported that two individuals were recently sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the Magistrate Court in Ilaro for stealing armoured cables belonging to Dangote Company.
Hussain Waziri, 36, and Mustapha Aliyu, 33, were found guilty of conspiracy and theft after pleading guilty to the charges.
