The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, in 2022 revealed that she was 43% Nigerian.
Meghan made this revelation public during an episode of her podcast, Archetypes, via the Mirror UK during a conversation with Senegalese-American actress and comedian Issa Rae, Nigerian-American comedian and writer Ziwe Fumudoh, and Professor Emily Bernards.
The duchess during the show said, “ I just had my genealogy done a couple years ago,I’m 43% Nigerian.”
Meghan further stated that she was still looking into the tribe she belonged to at that time.
Recently, the news of Meghan and Prince Harry’s visiting Nigeria to champion the Invictus Games, an initiative Prince Harry established to support the rehabilitation of wounded and sick service members and veterans, including Nigerian soldiers involved in a 14-year conflict against Islamic extremists.
The duo arrived Nigeria on Friday, 10th May 2024 and have so far visited a school in Abuja, the defense headquarters and also visited the Governor of Kaduna state, Governor Sani Uba
Their itinerary includes meetings with wounded soldiers and their families, with the objective of uplifting morale and enhancing well-being. Nigerian officials have lauded this engagement as a significant opportunity for the recovery of Nigerian soldiers.
During their stay, the royal couple will attend basketball and volleyball matches and engage with local non-governmental organizations in Abuja and Lagos that benefit from their support.
Meghan will also co-host an event on women in leadership with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization, according to their spokesman Charlie Gipson.
The news of Meghan’s visit has sparked enthusiasm among Nigerians who closely follow her life and her association with the British royal family.
