The Federal Government, in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration, has facilitated the safe return of 147 irregular Nigerian migrants stranded in Libya on Tuesday.
Charge d’Affaires En Titre of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, Amb. Kabiru Musa, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.
Musa revealed that the evacuees departed from Tripoli International Airport on Tuesday via chartered flight UZ 189, with their scheduled arrival at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, later in the evening.
“Continuing the Federal Government’s evacuation efforts, supported by the IOM in Libya, we have successfully repatriated another group of 147 irregular Nigerian migrants stranded in Libya,” Musa stated.
He detailed that the evacuees consisted of 78 males, 55 females, 13 children, and one infant, all of whom departed Libya smoothly and were anticipated to arrive at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, where appropriate officials would receive them.
“We remain committed to evacuating stranded Nigerians who wish to return to Nigeria under the IOM’s Voluntary Humanitarian Repatriation (VHR) program, aligned with the ‘renewed hope’ agenda of the present administration to enhance citizens’ quality of life,” Musa emphasized.
Expressing gratitude, Musa acknowledged the support of the Libyan authorities, which has been instrumental in the success of these repatriation exercises.
