FG to close third mainland bridge Monday
The Federal Government has declared a 24-hour shutdown on the Third Mainland Bridge for Iyana Oworonshoki-Lagos Island-bound traffic from midnight on Sunday, February 18, to midnight on Monday, February 19, as part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the bridge.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, stated in a Saturday night announcement that the emergency closure aims to address a crucial section of the bridge currently undergoing extensive repairs.
During the 24-hour closure, motorists traveling from Iyana Oworonshoki to Lagos Island will be restricted from using the bridge. However, those traveling out of the Island towards Oworonshoki will experience unrestricted access throughout the closure period.
Kesha elaborated, “The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Works wishes to inform the motoring public that the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will not be available for 24 hours for motorists from Iyana Oworonshoki-Lagos Island bound.” Traffic will resume normal flow by 12:00 a.m on Monday.
She further advised motorists to utilize alternative routes and adhere to traffic regulations during this period. The recommended alternative routes include Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams Avenue-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS, Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Jibowu-Yaba-Oyingbo-Iddo-Carter bridge-CMS, and Gbagada-Anthony-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS.
Motorists are urged to cooperate with traffic management officials deployed to oversee traffic flow and ensure a smooth transition during the repair period.
The Federal Government reaffirms its commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure for the convenience of road users.
