A Major League Soccer club, Los Angeles FC, announced on Tuesday that former Italy and Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has assumed the role of player development coach.

Chiellini, who represented Italy in 117 international matches and captained the team to victory in Euro 2020, retired in December 2022 after concluding his illustrious career with LAFC.

Having spent the majority of his club career with Juventus, where he contributed to nine consecutive Serie A titles, five Coppa Italia victories, and five domestic Supercups, Chiellini made the move to LAFC in 2022.

LAFC co-President John Thorrington expressed gratitude for Chiellini’s final 18 months as a player with the club and emphasized the significant impact he made.

Thorrington stated, “We were thankful to have Giorgio play the final 18 months of his playing career with LAFC. During that time he proved what an asset he is for LAFC in a number of ways, and we are excited to add a truly brilliant football mind, incredible leader, and an even better person to our staff for the upcoming season.”
