The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Friday paraded seven individuals associated with notorious ‘one chance’ syndicates, notorious for terrorizing residents of the nation’s capital, Abuja.

The suspects, identified as Rita Geoffrey, Musa Bashiru, Ruth Friday, Isa Paul Abdulateef, Murtala Olawale, and Loveth Amos, were presented to the media.

Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, Haruna Garba, disclosed that upon interrogation, Rita Geoffrey voluntarily confessed to being involved in a series of ‘one chance’ activities within the FCT over the past three years, including the tragic murder of a female victim by their gang.

The confession subsequently led to the arrest of Mohammed Aliyu Lawal, a point-of-sale operator regularly used by the syndicates to withdraw money using the victims’ ATM cards.

Garba informed reporters that the suspects would face charges in court following the completion of investigations.

He stated, “Between 1st of December till date, the anti-one chance clearance squad of the Command while clamping down on one chance elements impounded seventeen (17) vehicles without number plates and with tinted glasses.”

He continued by providing an overview of recent successes, including the arrest of suspects, recovery of stolen vehicles, and neutralization of a kidnapper. Additionally, the CP highlighted the collaborative efforts in ensuring a peaceful Christmas celebration, emphasizing that the FCT remains the safest city in Nigeria.

“I wish to bring to the attention of the general public that there are some mischief-makers out there posting items on social media that the FCT is not safe, that one-chance operators have taken over the FCT. This is not true. I can say without any fear of contradiction that FCT is the safest city in Nigeria,” assured Garba.

He reiterated that the security measures implemented during the Christmas period would be replicated for the New Year festival, ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike.
