Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Nasarawa State, has taken the disciplinary measure of rusticating seven graduating female students for their involvement in what has been labeled as an “indecent” sign-out celebration.

The announcement was made by Mr. Ali Hassan Mohammed, the Public Relations Officer of the state-owned institution, through a statement released on Friday in Lafia.

The decision to rusticate the students for one academic session was reached during a meeting of the Academic Board of IMAP on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

The move follows allegations of the students engaging in indecent behavior during the sign-out celebration, which reportedly tarnished the institution’s reputation.

“The affected students, who have already been communicated with, are to resume in the 2023/2024 academic session with letters of undertaking to be of good behavior from their guardians or parents, serving as a deterrent to others.” Ali Hassan Mohammed said.

In response to the incident, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Justina Anjide-Kotso, expressed her commitment to maintaining standards and academic excellence within the institution. Dr. Anjide-Kotso emphasized that her administration would not compromise on principles, urging students to prioritize their studies and uphold discipline.

The controversy gained public attention when images of the implicated students, dressed inappropriately during a sign-out celebration months ago, circulated on social media, sparking criticism from Nigerians.

In response, the school management has implemented a ban on sign-out celebrations within the campus until further notice.
