Plateau man jailed for stealing N2.3m household items
A 25-year-old artisan Ishaku Saidu has been sentenced to six months in prison by an Area Court in Jos for stealing household items valued at N2.3 million.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, delivered the sentence after Saidu pleaded guilty and sought leniency.
Judge Bokkos also provided an alternative for the convict, stating, “Ishaku Saidu has the option to pay a fine of N20,000. Additionally, he is required to compensate the complainant, Simi Gyang, with N2,396,000. Failure to meet this condition will result in 12 months of imprisonment.”
The case was reported at the Anglo Jos Police Station on September 7 by Simi Gyang.
According to the police prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, the accused broke into Gyang’s residence, where he stole various items, including a smart TV, home theatre, window curtains, blender, and a pumping machine.
During the police investigation, Saidu confessed to the crime, leading to the charges filed against him.
The prosecutor highlighted that the offense contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
