CNG buses commence operations in Ogun
The Ogun State Government’s Compressed Natural Gas powered buses, known as ‘DapoCNG Bus,’ have officially started operations along the Mowe-Ibafo-Berger route in Lagos.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo, announced the commencement of services on Monday, revealing that the buses would operate in anticipation of the introduction of the Bus Rapid Transit system along the same axis.
The CNG buses will be operational from 6 am to 9 pm on Mondays to Saturdays and from 7 am to 6 pm on Sundays.
The bus stops along the route include Mowe, Ibafo, Magboro, Arepo, and New Garage in Berger.
Transport rates for the CNG-powered buses range from N200 to a maximum of N400.
Dairo assured commuters that all necessary arrangements had been finalized with stakeholders, including transport unions and local government officials, to ensure a smooth launch of the scheme.
Dairo stated, “Expectations are quite high, the services are much anticipated, and the timing of the start of operations with Xmas activities at the RCCG camp is much valued by commuters.”
He encouraged commuters along the designated route to patronize the buses, emphasizing their convenience, safety, and affordability. He promised a positive and smooth experience for passengers.
Governor Dapo Abiodun had previously announced the deployment of CNG technology and E-Mobility as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly means of transportation in Ogun State.
The initiative, launched on October 30, included 17 converted vehicles and aimed to address the impact of fuel subsidy removal on transport costs in the state.
The scheme, initially introduced along the Adatan to Ita-Oshin corridor in the Abeokuta metropolis, is slated for expansion to other towns and cities in the state.
