German tourist stabbed in Paris by assailant
A German tourist was tragically killed and two others were injured by an individual with known radical Islamist views and a history of mental health issues In the heart of Paris, near the iconic Eiffel Tower.
The attack took place on a busy weekend evening, at a time when the city was on high alert due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, in a message on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, declared a firm stance against terrorism following the incident.
“We will not give in to terrorism,” she wrote.
President Emmanuel Macron expressed his deepest sympathies to the relatives of the German victim who lost their life in what he referred to as a “terrorist attack.”
The French anti-terror prosecutors have taken charge of the investigation, signaling the gravity of the situation.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, present at the scene along the River Seine, confirmed that the perpetrator, who had been under surveillance for radical Islamist tendencies and was receiving mental health treatment, proclaimed “Allahu Akbar” during the assault before being detained by the authorities.
The assailant used a knife to fatally wound the German tourist, born in 1999, and resorted to a hammer to attack others while attempting to escape across the River Seine.
