Why I killed 62-year-old woman- Ondo teenager
An 18-year-old boy Mubarak Akadiru, confessed to an Akure Magistrate Court about the motive behind the murder of 62-year-old Mrs. Sidikat Adamolekun, a grandmother and former head teacher, in Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State.
Akadiru, the son of a housemaid, revealed to the court that he killed the deceased after being caught attempting to steal her Samsung phone.
He admitted to repeatedly striking the woman’s skull with a wooden stool during the incident.
“In usual fashion, I went to the house to work, and I later came back to steal her Samsung phone. Unfortunately, the deceased caught me after I’d stolen the phone,” Akadiru said.
Police prosecutor Simon Wada informed the court that the crime occurred on November 14, 2023, at 11:30 am in Simiileolowa Quarters, Arigidi Akoko.
The defendant allegedly killed Mrs. Adamolekun by hitting her on the head with a wooden stool while attempting to steal her Android Samsung phone valued at N66,000.
The prosecution cited a violation of Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni approved the remand application, ordering the accused to be confined at the Olokuta Correctional Centre until the conclusion of the Director of Public Prosecutions advice.
The case was adjourned to March 15, 2024, for further consideration.
