A bus filled with passengers from Bright Mass Transit transport company en route to Abuja was intercepted at the border between Kogi and Enugu, and the passengers were kidnapped.

The incident occurred near Ette, a town situated between natives of Enugu-Ezike in Igboeze North LGA and Kogi State on Wednesday.

Around three passengers are believed to have managed to escape during the attack, although their current whereabouts are unknown.

The abductors have demanded a ransom of N5 million for each passenger’s release.

According to a relative of one of the kidnapped individuals, “The driver loaded from Ebonyi state en-route to Abuja when it happened. She has been calling me since yesterday. She said they demanded N5 million ransom. I don’t know what to do. She asked me to be contacting our relatives to save her.”

The wife of one of the victims, speaking anonymously, said, “I gathered that they left Ebonyi a little late. They reached Nsukka around 3 pm. I saw that bus; it belongs to Bright Mass Transit. They might have been kidnapped around 6 p.m. My husband called me in the morning today and called again this evening. He was speaking English. I believe his calls are being monitored. I beg them to release him. I am a nursing mother.”

The Enugu and Kogi state police commands are yet to issue any statement on the incident.
