South Africa retain rugby World Cup title
South Africa rugby team, Springboks, retained their Rugby World Cup title on Saturday with a nerve-shredding 12-11 victory over New Zealand in Paris, their third consecutive victory by just one point.
The Springboks became the first side to lift the trophy for the fourth time in a final that was both flawed and compelling.
The tension was palpable throughout the game, with both teams playing intensely. The rain poured down, making the conditions difficult for both sides.
South Africa started the game strongly and took the lead through a series of penalties from Handre Pollard. New Zealand responded with a try from Beauden Barrett, but Mo’unga missed the conversion.
The Springboks were reduced to 14 men in the 28th minute when Sam Cane was sent off for a dangerous tackle. However, they defended resolutely and managed to keep New Zealand at bay.
South Africa extended their lead in the second half through another penalty from Pollard. New Zealand had a chance to level the scores late in the game, but Jordie Barrett missed a long-range penalty.
The Springboks held on for victory in a thrilling final, and they are now the most successful nation in Rugby World Cup history.
