The Defence Headquarters announced on Thursday that in the past week, the military neutralised 50 terrorists and apprehended 114 individuals.

These operations resulted in the recovery of a substantial number of weapons and ammunition, illegal refining sites, and the disruption of oil theft activities.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, said the air component of Operation Hadin Kai engaged terrorists in air interdictions, neutralising several of them and disrupting their activities.

According to him, in the North Central, troops arrested suspected kidnappers, while in the North West, operations led to the surrender of terrorists, the arrest of collaborators and informants, and the recovery of significant arms and ammunition.

Buba said troops operating in the Northeast encountered terrorists, neutralizing them and recovering various weapons, including AK47 rifles and hand grenades.

In the Niger Delta region, he said Operation Delta Safe conducted operations to counter illegal oil refining and arrested individuals involved in oil theft.

The army spokesperson also reiterated the military commitment to eradicating the safe havens used by criminal elements and violent extremist groups in Nigeria, which provide resources, funding, and support for terrorism and insurgency in the country.

Buba said, “These safe havens provide the flow of funding, material, weapons, fighters, command and control that supports terrorism and insurgency confronting us.”

He emphasized the need to dismantle these long-standing support bases of extremist groups.

He encouraged citizens to provide information about these atrocities, especially those that occur under the influence and command of native doctors.

General Buba urged the population to cooperate with the military by providing information and intelligence to further enhance the fight against insecurity and extremist threats in the country.
