Buhari’s associates tarnished his name — Ex minister
Solomon Dalung, who served as the Minister of Sports and Youth Development under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has revealed why the former administration did not deliver on its promises to Nigerians.
The former minister during an interview with Trust Radio, said that former President Muhammadu Buhari was a sincere man who trusted that those he worked with were also sincere.
Dalung said that as one of the founding members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, he has to tell the truth.
He stated that the former president now feels remorseful as his associates “tarnished his reputation.”
“He (Buhari) is a very sincere man who trusted that everyone around him was a sincere person, he brought them and trusted them. Today, I believe he is feeling remorseful.
“They have tarnished his name and integrity not only in the mud and they’ve lowered his image,” Dalung said.
He added that by his evaluation, the government had disappointed Nigerians terribly.
He disclosed that the plan was to improve the economy as well as curb insecurity to the lowest level.
He lamented that the “political covenant” could not be achieved as planned.
“The political covenant we had with Nigerians while campaigning was that we were going to tackle the security situation; we were going to improve the economy; and we were going to deal with corruption a major blow so that we could reduce it to the lowest level.
“Looking back, reflecting and evaluating the situation as it is today, we failed terribly”, Dalung said.
