Ogun, Sokoto gov tribunals to deliver judgments today
The governorship election tribunals for Ogun and Sokoto states are set to deliver their judgments on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
In Ogun, the tribunal will be delivering judgment on the petition filed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, challenging the re-election of incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun.
In Sokoto, the tribunal will deliver judgment on the petition filed by Sa’idu Umar of the PDP, challenging the election of incumbent Governor Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress.
Both petitions allege electoral fraud and other irregularities.
The judgments are expected to be keenly watched by all stakeholders, as they could significantly impact the political landscape in both states.
However, the police in Sokoto state have banned any form of protest before and after the governorship election tribunal judgment.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Kaigama, announced the ban in a statement issued on Friday.
Kaigama warned that any protest or gathering that violates the law or disrupts the peace will not be tolerated.
He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding and to avoid taking actions that could jeopardize the public peace.
