Alex Otti suspends transportation levies in Abia
Kazeem Owoseni
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti on Wednesday ordered the immediate suspension of all kinds of transportation levies payable to the state government.
Otti, who disclosed this through his Twitter handle on Wednesday, said the suspension affects the Tricycles, Buses, Taxis and all other commercial vehicles plying Abia roads.
The governor who said the suspension takes effect immediately, stated that it remains operational until the government review the levies, and makes a transparent arrangement for a smoother and well-organized collection of such levies.
He, however, warned all those who are directly or indirectly involved in the collection of the levies, to abide by the order, or face the wrath of the law, noting that security agents have been directed to apprehend and bring to justice, anyone found, violating the order.
“In line with my campaign promise to sanitize methods of revenue collection in Abia, and stop all kinds of extortion, intimidation and harassment of motorists, I have directed the immediate suspension of all kinds of Transport Levies payable to the Abia state government, and imposed on Tricycles, Buses, Taxis and other commercial vehicles plying Abia roads.
“This suspension takes immediate effect and will remain until we review these levies and make public arrangements for the smooth, organized and transparent collection of such Transport Levies.
“In the light of the above decision, I have asked all those involved, directly and indirectly, to please discontinue forthwith, or face the wrath of the law, as security agents have been briefed and directed to apprehend and bring to justice anyone found violating this directive, he wrote.
