Clean up Twitter, Mexico’s Obrador charges Musk
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Tuesday that he hoped billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk would rid Twitter of corruption and censorship after buying the social media platform.
“I hope they clean it up… of the corruption that’s there, manipulation with bots,” Lopez Obrador told reporters.
He said he wanted to see “an end to manipulation and censorship… so that we all have the possibility of communicating.”
Lopez Obrador has previously accused Twitter and other social media including Facebook of censoring content, arguing in favor of freedom of information.
In January 2021 he criticized major social media platforms for locking out then-US president Donald Trump due to false claims about his election loss and for inciting supporters who stormed the US Capitol.
Musk, the world’s richest man, has said he wants to reform what he sees as over-zealous content moderation on Twitter, which announced Monday it had agreed to sell the platform to the Tesla boss for $44 billion.
