US court jails Hushpuppi 11 years
A United States Central District Court in California has sentenced popular Nigerian socialite and internet sensation, Ramon Abbas, better known as Hushpuppi to 11 years and three months in jail.
The Nigerian cybercriminal was sentenced on Monday, November 7, 2022, after 28 months of trial since his arrest in June 2020 at his Dubai hotel apartment.
Hushpuppi was arrested for running a massive fraud scheme that defrauded victims in the United States, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and other countries.
He was then extradited to the United States, where he faced fraud and money laundering charges.
He consented to plead guilty to the multi-million dollar fraud allegations levied against him by the American government in July 2021.
In July 2021, he entered into a plea bargain arrangement with the US government in the hopes of receiving a lesser sentence.
The socialite received 11 years in prison after pleading with US Judge Otis Wright for mercy and a reduced sentence after performing well in prison housekeeping tasks.
