UCL: Lewandowski bags brace as Bayern sink Barcelona 3-0
Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski scored twice on Tuesday as Bayern Munich defeated Barcelona 3-0 at the Camp Nou.
Barca filed out for the first time in the Champions League without Lionel Messi, the first time since their humiliating 8-2 defeat by the German champions in August 2020.
New manager, Ronald Koeman was hoping to write a new narrative against the Germans but ended up getting humiliated in his backyard by the visitors who were led by new manager Julian Nagelsmann.
Thomas Müller yet again proved to be a thorn in the Blaugrana’s flesh and he made sure of that with a 34th-minute opener for the Bavarians.
According to OptaJoe, Müller has scored more goals against Barcelona than any other player in European Cup/Champions League history (seven goals in six appearances).
Robert Lewandowski (56′, 85′) inflicted more injury on the hosts by scoring a second-half brace to seal the 3-0 win for Bayern.
He has scored the most goals (112) in all competitions for clubs in Europe’s big five leagues since the start of 2019-20 – OptaJoe.
Barcelona had no single shot on target and sit rock bottom in Group E after Matchday 1 that saw Second and third-placed Benfica and Dinamo Kyiv play a goalless draw.
