Ramadan: Kano cleric Aliyu-Umar warns traders not to inflate food prices

Hours after the moon was sighted, an Islamic scholar, Dr. Bashir Aliyu-Umar has called on traders not to hike the prices of commodities as the Ramadan fasting begins.

The Chief Imam of Alfurqan Mosque in Nasarawa GRA of Kano State gave the advice while delivering a Jumma’at sermon on Friday in Kano State.

WuzupNigeria earlier reported that Australian and Saudi Arabia Supreme Court on Tuesday announced that this year’s Muslim fast will commence on Saturday.

The development comes after the moon of Ramadan 1443/ 2022 was sighted in Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Aliyu-Umar appealed to traders to fear Allah and make the prices of essential commodities needed in Ramadan affordable in order to earn Allah’s mercy and blessings, the Eagle reports

The imam explained that Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and a month of blessings where the Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad.

Aliyu-Umar enjoined Muslim faithful to study and recite the Qur’an dutifully, improve obedience to Allah and give charity to the needy, particularly widows and orphans.

He also urged Muslims to remember the night prayers and show kindness and generosity.

The Islamic scholar called on faithful to continue to pray for peace, unity and stability in the country.

The Muslims are expected to begin Ramadan on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the sighting of the new moon in the country.

The sighting of the moon immediately brings the fasting by the Muslim Ummah simultaneously in the country.

The Nigeria Muslims Leader, Sultan of Sokoto, HRM, Abubakar Sa’ad is expected to make formal announcemnt on when the 1443AH Lunar year fasting will commence.
