JUST IN: Muslim fast begins Saturday as Saudi, Australia sight moon

Australian and Saudi Arabia Supreme Court on Tuesday announced that this year’s Muslim fast will commence on Saturday.

The development comes after the moon of Ramadan 1443/ 2022 was sighted in Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar that takes place for 720 hours.

During the four weeks and two days duration, the followers of Islam will fast between dawn and sunset, pray for peace and guidance, give back to the community in form of charity or zakaat and engage in humanitarian activities such as feeding the underprivileged and introspect to enlighten their souls.

Aside from both countries, several nations have also announced the first day of the Islamic Holy month and will mark their Ramadan tomorrow.

They include some parts of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrian, Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Chechnia, Denmark, Finland, Georgia, Hungary, Iceland, Iraq (Sunnis follow Saudi), Italy, Japan and Jordan.

Others are Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgizstan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Netherlands, Palestine, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Tatarstan, Togo, Turkmenistan, UAE, UK, Uzbekistan and Yemen.

When it comes to Ramadan moon sighting, the countries align themselves with the Saudi announcements.
