A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday further adjourned proceedings in the alleged murder case involving Lagos Island Branch B chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Azeez Lawal, known also as Kunle Poly, and Adekanbi Wahab.
The proceedings have been adjourned until April 4
Delay in advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions stalled proceedings.
48-year-old Kunle Poly and Wahab, 38, were on January 27 arraingned on a three-count of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, and membership of a secret cult.
The alleged offences contravene Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and Section 3 of the Anti-cultism Law of Lagos State, 2021.
On Monday, counsel to the defendants Adeshina Okulana argued that the defendants had been in custody for more than 60 days, saying it was in violation of their rights.
He said that the DPP did not give any reason for the delay and a timeframe within which the advice would be ready.
Chief Magistrate Linda Balogun directed a lawyer from the directorate, O. R. Saliu, to ensure the readiness of the DPP’s advice on the next adjourned date.
