A 34-year-old man, Felix Joseph, was on Thursday brought before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing N900,000.
Joseph, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a count of stealing brought against him by the police.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in Lagos State on February 8, at 20.49 p.m.
According to him, the defendant transferred the sum of N600,000 from the bank account of the complainant, Mr. Williams Oladimeji, into his own account.
He said that the defendant also stole a bag containing N300,000, belonging to the complainant.
Aigbokhan noted that stealing contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ogunkanmi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until April 11 for mention.
