Adamawa decries poor attendance in schools
Agency Report
Adamawa Government has decried low attendance of teachers and students one week after the schools reopened in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the schools resumed on Jan. 10, for the Second Term 2021 academic session across the 20 local government areas of the state.
Mrs Wilbina Jackson, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, expressed the concern in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, on Wednesday in Yola.
According to her, the ministry will punish teachers and students for truancy, adding that, “all public primary and secondary schools resumed last week from New Year vacation, however, we received a report that the turnout of students, particularly in government schools is very low.
“We’ll not tolerate such bad attitudes from both teachers and students.
“Government is taking punitive measures against any teacher or student that failed to resume on the resumption date to serve as a deterrent to others,” she said.
Jackson urged parents to send their children to school on the first day of resumption and also monitor their attendance in schools.
She warned that the ministry would not take it lightly with anyone found violating its rules and regulations.
