Olympics: Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei claims gold in men’s 5000m
Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei has claimed the gold medal in the men’s 5000 metres Olympic title at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 games.
The long-distance runner and 2019 world champion in the 10,000m is the tenth man in history to hold the 5,000 m and 10,000 m world records concurrently, both set in 2020.
Cheptegei won the race after running 12:58.15 ahead of Mohammed Ahmed of Canada who settled for silver with a race time of 12:58.61.
Paul Chelimo of the United States finished with a race time of 12:59.05.
