Comedian Victor Ebiye has said he is embarrassed by the distasteful joke he made about Aramide’s #Headies2018 win.
Ebiye said “I am embarrassed by my comments and I am profusely sorry. Aramide is a hardworking artist who deserves every recognition she gets by merit”.
This is coming after Aramide won the Headies for Best Alternative Song. Ebiye had shared a photo on his Snapchat of the singer accepting the award with the caption:
“She can’t even believe it, lol she prolly f***ed for the award. #Headies.”
Nigerian have however reacted to his apology. Some alleged that his comment was insensitive and very disgusting. Some also said his apology should be accepted and the controversail statement should be forgotten.
Aramide at the 2018 Headies on Saturday won the Best Alternative Song award for her song “Fun Mi Lowo Mi” featuring Sound Sultan and Koker.
See his apology and comments:
I made a distasteful joke about @aramidemusic last night at the headies.I am embarrassed by my comments,I’m profusely sorry. Aramide is a hardworking artist who deserves every recognition she gets by merit. I sincerely apologize and pledge that such will not repeat itself ❤️

Reading this is very disgusting to me, it doesn’t even translate as honest or truly sorry, just some patch up work. What were you thinking that we were going to praise you for reducing a woman’s hard work to sex? Because I know this apology is only because of the backlash.
— Victory Emordi (@iamvictorye) May 6, 2018
You said you’re sorry
That’s nice
Some of you here dunno how to do this yet you judging
You’ve done your part. Thank you for saying sorry cos you had a choice not to answer but you saw the need for it. ♥— Teminikan (@its_temi_) May 6, 2018
He’s apologized. Y’all move on. I’m sure y’all have said worse about someone at some point in your life. He shouldn’t have said it, but he did and now he’s sorry. Get over it y’all.. @AramideMusic please forgive.
Everyone else… it’s Sunday! Eat rice and chill ???

Your career is over fam! Just go nd buy okada with the little money left in ur account, or rather open a barbing saloon.???
— Man T (@TaheerKakangi) May 6, 2018
Upcoming spiteful comedian. Oga swerve abeg.
— LESEDI (@i_am_efua) May 6, 2018
Nope, you cannot be jealous of someone who you haven’t met Nd is probably doing better than you, but what could warrant such ill words from him? So much hate
— LESEDI (@i_am_efua) May 6, 2018
he may actually be a good comedian who effed up badly and is actually sorry about it. But what do I know?
— rorschach (@NOgechukwu) May 6, 2018
Why wld u even make such an irresponsible and distasteful comment/accusations in d first place??
Itz so inexcusable abeg, plz park well— Hammed Tosin Yakub (@hamyak007) May 6, 2018
So bcos I decide to give my own opinion nw, my blood done dey boil b dat…. Abeg if u no get beta thing to yarn, go use ur bed
— Hammed Tosin Yakub (@hamyak007) May 6, 2018
You said what it topmost on your mind. Apology and probable forgiveness does not change the fact that you are stupid. Maybe thats how your mother and sisters make a living.
— La Belle (@missnibokun) May 6, 2018
I don’t think so.A woman’s success is usually attributed to a man or ‘bottom power’ like she never works hard for anything.when I bought my car pple assumed, argued and ‘joked’ about it that a man bought it for me some how.very offensive.Ebiye is a fool.
— La Belle (@missnibokun) May 7, 2018
so calling him names now justifies the fact that people don’t really do what he claimed to be a joke to get to the top..madam don’t come and do feminist here abeg..even the girl u are fighting for has not spoken..chill abeg

What I fail to understand is for ppl to crucify Ebiye after seeing his mistake, his conscience dealt with him and he came to apologize and fuuuuls acts holy, yet we all know dat WOMEN dis days uses dia body to climb ladders, it’s a fact, I don’t even have time to argue dat.
— Pink Chinasa ? (@Pink_Chinasa) May 7, 2018
He no try at all, he even said it was meant to be a joke.
Like what???— ɢʜo̶ꜱᴛ (@Stanlywaxy) May 6, 2018
Nobody should ever say those words to anyone. Aramide will lose nothing, she’ll probably soar even higher from now. But Ebiye, stand tall still, rise even higher from this mud. Your mistakes don’t define you. Reach out personally to Aramide. But in all, stay tall.
— TOCHUKWU EZEUKWU (@Towchukwu) May 6, 2018
Ridiculous apology. You obviously don’t know what a joke is if you thought your comments would’ve passed for a joke…then again, you probably haven’t created a real joke in your life.
— The Zen Monster (@TheZenMonster) May 6, 2018
To everyone that says he has apologized and we should move on…. You guys are not helping him. There are mistakes that one can make and apology can override it. This isn’t one of such mistake. After a woman work hard to win an award, saying that she probably slept her way to it
— OLUWASEYIFUNMI® (@zeyi_love) May 6, 2018
So that others won’t think that once you make a nasty comment about someone, you can always apologize and people would move on.
— OLUWASEYIFUNMI® (@zeyi_love) May 6, 2018
You have apologised, we have heard…but it still doesn’t change the notion about what you are and what you think of successful women.

You’re one to talk about someone else, when your skits aren’t even funny?. It wasn’t a joke, it was a reflection of the kind of person you are and how your mind works.??♀️
