Get married or leave in 30 days, Jigawa council chairman threatens sex workers
The Chairman of Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa, Zaharadden Abubakar says it has resolved to take drastic measures against commercial sex workers if they fail to quit the profession or be ready to be married off in 30 days.
This is just as the council boss directed the immediate closure of all clubs and beer parlour in the local government area.
Abubakar made the threat at a meeting with a delegation of Sara community, a popular weekly market in the local government.
Daily Trust reported that the move was aimed at tackling immorality in the local government.
While disclosing that sex workers who are not indigenous to the area will be repatriated to their states, the chairman declared that those indigenous to the area who are ready to give up their business of sex work should be ready to be married.
He further stated that women who have agreed to turn a new leaf would be required to present the names of their suitors before the 30-day deadline.
“The council is ready to take care of the wedding responsibilities of indigenous sex workers that are ready to give up the trade.”
He also disclosed that the council had mobilised the police ahead of the repatriation of non-indigenous sex workers to their states of origin.
