COVID-19 Third Wave: NAFDAC approves Moderna, Sputnik vaccines
Less than five months after it listed AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 jab for emergency use, the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday approved two more – Moderna and Sputnik COVID-19 vaccines – to tackle the third wave of the virus in Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement released by NAFDAC Director-General, Professor Moji Adeyeye, on Thursday at a news conference in Abuja.
WuzupNigeria had earlier reported that the agency sanctioned the use of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine for Emergency Use Listing as requested by the World Health Organisation on Monday, February 15, 2021.
Adeyeye explained that though the Sputnik vaccine has not yet been officially approved by the World Health Organisation, the agency has carried out independent checks on the vaccine and found that the benefits outweigh the risks.”
