JUST IN: Federer withdraws from Tokyo Olympics over protracted knee injury
Switzerland Tennis superstar, Roger Federer, has announced his withdrawal from this summer’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games holding in Japan.
Announcing his withdrawal in a social media post on Tuesday, Federer cited a ‘setback’ in his long-standing knee issue as the reason for his decision.
He said, “During the grass-court season I, unfortunately, suffered a setback with my knee and have accepted that I must withdraw from the Toyko Olympics.
“I am greatly disappointed, as it has been an honour and highlight of my career each time I have represented Switzerland.
“I have already begun rehabilitation in the hopes of returning to the tour later this summer.
“I wish the entire Swiss team the best of luck and I will be rooting hard from afar. As always, Happ Schwiz!’
