Seven facts about Gov Abiodun’s SSA arrested for wire fraud in US
Until he was arrested in the United States, not many Nigerians have heard about Abidemi Rufai, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Special Duties to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
His newly-found international fame has placed him on the map of shame.
WUZUPNIGERIA earlier reported the governor’s aide was nabbed in New York by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over his alleged involvement in a $350m unemployment benefits fraud.
His arrest on Friday evening at the JFK Airport in New York was met with a suspension by his principal, as announced by the State Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, who described the development as “disturbing”.

#1: Born on November 6, 1978, Rufai graduated from the Lagos State University where he holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration
#2: Rufai, who belongs to the popular Mayodele Family in Ijebu-Ode, contested for nomination as APC candidate in Ijebu Central Federal Constituency for House of Representatives in the 2019 election.
#3: Gov Dapo Abiodun appointed him into his Economic Transition Committee and Work Groups in 2019 under the education, youth and sport category.
#4: Rufai became Governor Abiodun’s Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties in August 2020.
#5: He is the founder of Ecobet Sport Betting company in Nigeria.
#6: Rufai was arrested in the United States on Friday, May 14 for an unemployment benefits fraud worth $350m.
#7: The 42-year-old was suspended as Governor Abiodun’s SSA on Tuesday, May 18, following his arrest.
