JUST IN: Iwobi out of Benin clash after testing positive for COVID-19
Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, will not take part in the match against the Benin Republic after testing positive for COVID-19.
Iwobi, who was part of the invited players, travelled with the team to Port Novo but tested positive during the COVID-19 check following the team’s arrival from Lagos on Friday.
Iwobi will also miss next Tuesday’s clash against the Crocodiles of Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos. Benin’s duo of Rodrigue Kossi and Jacques Bessan will also miss out for the same reason.
The match against is billed for 5 pm today.
Meanwhile, Nigeria have qualified for the 2021 African Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon next year.
The Super Eagles booked the ticket after Lesotho and Sierra Leone played a goalless draw on matchday 5 ongoing qualifier.
Gernot Rohr’s men who play the Benin Republic later today only needed to avoid a defeat to qualify for the tournament.
