The registrar of Covenant University, Dr Segun Omidiora, on Thursday, said the institution has begun moves to prevent a recurrence of the rape scandal involving a lecturer in the Department of Business Management and a 17-year-old female student of the school.

Omidiora noted that the management of the institution would prosecute the randy lecturer, Dr Stephen Ukenna, who has since been sacked by the school, over the incident.

WuzupNigeria reports that  Ukenna allegedly raped the student in his office.

According to the registrar, a meeting was held with students directing them on what to do to prevent such act.

“It is the truth. We had meetings with all the students yesterday on how to prevent a recurrence of such dastardly act.

“We are willing to prosecute him by ourselves,” he said.

The university set up a panel to look into the matter, which recommended the sack of the 41-year-old lecturer after he had admitted having carnal knowledge of the victim but didn’t give any reason for his action.

Police authorities said he would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

WuzupNigeria reports that Ukenna had been arrested on March 11 by the police in Ota for “forcefully having unlawful carnal knowledge of the student” following a complaint lodged at the Ota Police Area Command by the parents of the victim.

The parents reported that their daughter called them on the phone from the school that she was invited by the lecturer to his office on the said date under the pretence that he wanted to plan a surprise birthday party for her close friend.

The police said the student, however, on getting to the lecturer’s office, was locked in the office and the lecturer forcibly had s*x with her on top of the table in his office.
