At least eight patients died in Nigeria on Sunday as a result of complications relating to the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).
According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), a total of 521 new infections were reported from at least 20 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Lagos State – the epicentre of the deadly virus in the country recorded the highest cases with 166 new infections, followed by Ogun and Rivers State with 52 and 47 cases respectively.
The FCT which is second on the list of infections by states, after Lagos, recorded a total of 15 first cases, according to the NCDC.
“On the 21st of February 2021, 521 new confirmed cases and 8 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“The 521 new cases are reported from 20 states- Lagos (166), Ogun (52), Rivers (47), Adamawa(37), Ebonyi (37), Akwa Ibom (25), Osun (21), Bayelsa (18), Kaduna (17), Oyo (16), FCT (15), Ekiti (14), Kano (12), Edo (12), Borno (9), Yobe (8), Ondo (6), Nasarawa (4) Bauchi (2) and Kwara (3),” the statement read.
Reports from the NCDC also revealed that more than 200 patients were discharged from isolations centres after their full recovery on Sunday.
“Our discharges today include 228 community recoveries in Lagos State and 43 community recoveries in Kwara State managed in line with guidelines,” the statement added.
At the time of this report, Nigeria has recorded a total of 152,074 confirmed cases, 128,619 recoveries and 1,839 deaths resulting from the deadly virus.
Meanwhile, a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.
