Britain enforces hotel quarantine for travellers from high-risk countries
All travellers from red list countries arriving in British airports from Monday would go for a hotel quarantine and pay for it.
For the 10 days quarantine, each one needs to pre-book in government-sanctioned hotels and pay 1,750 pounds ($2,123).
Those who violate the new restriction will have to face fines of up to 10,000 pounds.
The government has signed up with 16 hotels and booked 4,600 rooms.
The new rules are to help Britain to strengthen its countrywide quarantine system and protect its people from the new variants of the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 15 million people received vaccination in Britain until Sunday.
The countries placed on the red list include Argentina, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Burundi, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana and Lesotho.
The others include Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Suriname, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay and Venezuela.
It is expected that Britain might ease its quarantine restrictions by early March.
In a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the COVID-19 Recovery Group asked for a commitment to a timetable for easing restrictions.
Meanwhile, the scientific advisor to the government said Britain could face another Coronavirus wave if all lockdown restrictions would be lifted.
He expects a new wave that might be as big as the current one.
