Troops of 3 Division Garrison Jos Plateau State have arrested seven suspects involved in the killing of 23 persons at Mararaba Dare area of the state during clash between Miango community and herdsmen at Rafiki Village.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu.
Brigadier General Chukwu said that it lost two of its soldiers while trying to resolve clashes between herdsmen and the Miango Community. He said the troops recovered weapons from the suspects
Recall that a violent clash occurred between Miango community and herdsmen at Rafiki Village on Wednesday February 14, 2018.
Brigadier General Chukwu said troops responded to distress calls from villagers, adding that on their way to the community to settle the dispute, the herdsmen opened fire on their convoy and two soldiers were killed on the spot.
He said 23 dead bodies were discovered at Mararaba Dare during a search while many civilians sustained various degrees of injuries at Rafiki Village.
The Army officer disclosed that two other soldiers who sustained injuries during the operation are receiving treatment at 3 Division Military Hospital and Medical Services with a stable condition.
He said,
“Weapons recovered include one Ak 47 assault rifle with 26 rounds of 7.62mm special and one locally made single barrel loaded with 15 rounds.”
Chukwu advised residents against panic and assured them of Army’s intensified patrol of the area to forestall further break down of law and other.
