Turkey says no fewer than 1m vaccinated with COVID-19 shots
A week after the nationwide inoculation drive started, Turkey has reportedly vaccinated no fewer than 1 million people with COVID-19 jabs, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday,
The mass roll-out of the vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac started on Jan. 14, with health care workers among the first to receive the shots, followed by the elderly.
Turkey, which has a population of 83 million, received 3 million Sinovac doses in December.
President Recep Erdogan, whose vaccination was televised, said there were plans to obtain 25-30 million more doses of Sinovac.
Turkey has reported close to 2.4 million infections and more than 24,000 deaths since March.
