Late South African goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa’s tombstone vandalised

Former goalkeeper of the South African national football team, Senzo Meyiwa’s tombstone has been vandalized by unknown persons.

According to the Bafana Bafana’s verified Twitter handle, The destruction came two months after after the tombstone was unveiled in Clermont, Durban.

Born 24 September 1987, the Orlando Pirate goalie was shot and killed in a robbery on 26 October 2014 in the home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, after argument inside the house.

Meyiwa was pronounced dead at the scene at the age of 30 on arrival at hospital in Johannesburg and three people were believed to have been involved in the shooting, reports revealed.

One suspect, Zamokuhle Mbatha, was arrested on 31 October and appeared in court, but he was freed on 11 November due to lack of evidence.

Further reports revealed that five men were charged with murdering Meyiwa in October 2020 but the suspects denied they were involved in the killing.
