Former Federal Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has advised that no individual should make a career out of serving in political offices.

The former Minister of Solid Minerals made this known in a series of tweets on her official Twitter page on Wednesday.

The 57-year-old argued that Nigeria must keep finding new talents to take up public spaces with the hope that those who have spent 6.5years in different government capacities will willingly reject a return to cabinet.

“I am looking forward to a Nigeria where it is not strange for a person who spent 6.5 years in government in different capacities to turn down an offer to return to cabinet. No one should make a career of appointative office in this country. We must keep finding new talents.”

Ezekwesili who spent about two years as a minister under the Olusegun Obasanjo government (from June 2005 to 2007 when she accepted a role at the World  Bank) said she preferred working with governments on economic reforms as a non-cabinet member than being in any cabinet.

“After my time @WorldBank running @WorldBankAfrica for five years, my next assignment gave me so much joy. Through the África Economic Development Policy Initiative, I directly supported a number of African Presidents and their cabinets on Economic Reforms.

“Africa Economic Development Policy Initiative first incubated through @OpenSociety in New York allowed me to from 2012 live in my own country and travel the continent advising those leaders on economic reforms for inclusive growth. I preferred it to being in any cabinet.”

She went further to laugh-off allegations that her reason for leading the #BringBackOurGirls campaign was because she not given any ministerial appointment during the Goodluck Jonathan tenure.

“In 2014 when ChibokGirls were abducted and I raised my voice persistently for their rescue by the then
@NigeriaGov, the best they could do was call me “jobless” and “angry because she was not made a minister”.
It’s a decadent transactional mindset, folks.

“I who was running a killing schedule of work on multiple countries’ economic reforms was being called “jobless” by our government officials and supporters because my demand for Justice of rescue of ChibokGirls angered them.
It’s their way even today. Just laugh and continue.”
