A car wash operator, Anas Mohammed, on Monday appeared in a Grade I Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, for allegedly “slashing’ a police officer’s finger.

The Prosecution Counsel, Babajide Olanipekun told the court that Adene Ismaila of Brick City, Kubwa, Abuja reported the matter at the Divisional Headquarters Byazhin on Sept.30.

Olanipekun alleged that while Ismaila was in his shop in Kubwa, the defendant met him, claiming to to be the owner of the shop.

“An argument ensued between the defendant and the complainant and Insp. Abubakar Ibrahim appeared on the scene, to calm the situation.

“The defendant removed a dagger and cut the Inspector deeply on his left finger,” he said.

He added that the offence contravened the provisions of section 247 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The defence counsel, Taiye Okoya applied for the bail of the defendant saying that he was presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

Okoya drew the attention of the court to the injuries inflicted on the defendant, saying that injustice had been done on him and urged the court to grant bail.

The prosecution however opposed to the bail, saying the court should consider the nature and severity of the alleged offence while exercising its discretion.

The Judge, Mr Muhammad Adamu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one reasonable surety resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

Adamu ordered that the surety must present means of identification and adjourned the case until Nov. 9 for hearing.
