SA President urges citizens to participate in #JerusalemaDanceChallenge
As South Africa celebrates its Heritage Day on September 26, President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South African to take up the ongoing #JerusalemaDanceChallenge to mark the occasion.
The African nation celebrates Heritage Day to recognize the cultural wealth as well as remember the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa.
Although various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this day, the President admonished his citizens to latch onto the #JerusalemaDanceChallenge by dancing to his favourite song, ‘Jerusalema’ by Master KG ft Nomcebo.
“There can be no better way to celebrate our South Africaness than joining the global phenomenon that is spreading all over the world and that is the Jerusalema dance challenge, the Jerusalema song that I love so much,” Ramaphosa said in a broadcast address to South Africans.
“So I urge all of you to take up the challenge on Heritage Day and show the world what we are capable of.
“Our performers have demonstrated to the world that we’ve got good music and good dance and good moves. So quietly, let us celebrate our heritage,” he added.
The song’s official video has hit more than 139 million views and over 1.6 million likes on Youtube since its release in December 2019.
With an inspiring lyrics and rhythm Nigerian Grammy Award nominee, Burna Boy, was featured in the remix of the song in June 2020 and the official audio has over 7.2 million views and over 82 thousand likes on Youtube so far.
Meanwhile, singer, Master KG, has gotten five nominations at the 2020 Afrimma Awards with the song Jerusalema nominated for the song of the year, video of the year and best collaboration (for the remix with Burna Boy) categories.
