Popular musician, Brickz jailed 15 years for raping relative
South African musician, Sipho Ndlovu, known by his stage name Brickz, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 17-year-old relative in 2013.
The victim who is now 21 said she wanted to end her life as a result of the trauma and became afraid of the musician.
Timeslive reports that in a ruling by Magistrate Baloyi, he detailed the testimony from the victim that she was bleeding after the incident as her hymen was broken.
The 17-year-old who was a virgin as of the time of the rape had been infected with a sexually transmitted disease unknown to her.
Baloyi said the victim was threatened by Brickz and ordered to clean up after he raped her.
Brickz had also threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
The defence argued for a lenient sentence, but Baloyi said Brickz has not shown remorse for his crime and the court had a duty to protect the freedom of women.
Wearing grey pants, a white shirt, and a blue jersey, Brickz was all smiles as he walked into court and posed for photos to hear his fate.
He has maintained he was innocent throughout the trial and had repeatedly said, “the truth will come out.”
Brickz’ legal team immediately said it would be appealing the conviction as well as the sentence.
Brickz’ leave to appeal the conviction and sentence has been denied.
