OAU lecturer says she will walk naked if Buhari does not reverse fuel price

A female lecturer at O‎bafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Dr. Kehinde Ajila, has threatened that she and other women could resolve to walking naked if the Federal Government refused to revert fuel price.

Ajila, who lectures at ‎the Faculty of Agriculture, OAU, Ile-Ife, said this during a protest embarked upon by OAU chapters of Academic Staff Union of Universities and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities.

During the protest, ‎members of the unions with sympathisers halted vehicular movement in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Thursday.‎

The protesters, who marched from OAU gate to popular Mayfair roundabout, were armed with placards.

Among the inscriptions on the displayed placards were, ‘Nigeria Labour will never surrender’, ‘ASUU says no to high electricity tariff ‘, and ‘We voted for change not chaos’.

Ajila‎, who led the female protesters, wondered why Federal Government allowed fuel price to go as high as N145, saying it was the responsibility of government to provide convenience for citizens.
‎While lamenting the degree of hardship unleashed on Nigerians as a result of the hike in fuel price, Ajila said, ‎”The women folks will not hesitate to walk naked to press home the demand for reversal of the petrol price.”

Apart from Ajila, other protesters including females insisted that the Federal Government should revert the fuel price.

Chairman of ASUU OAU, Dr. Caleb Aborisade, asked the FG to proof its concern for the masses by decreasing the fuel price.
Aborisade, who was represented by ‎Dr. Ayoka Abiodun, said, “If truly are for the masses, they should not make life unbearable for them. Everyone can see that the hike in petrol has worsen our living condition as virtually every consumable items have skyrocketed in their prices.

“Right now, things are going out of hand for common people as our purchasing power is weakening every day.”

Also, Chairman of NASU OAU Chapter, Mr. Wole Odewumi, said the increase in fuel price was not a sign of good governance.

Odewumi subsequently urged the FG to make policies that are “masses-friendly”.
