Kaduna lawmaker distributes 2,400 bags of fertilizer to constituents
Mr. Amos Magaji, member representing Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, on Saturday in Zonkwa, flagged off the distribution of 2,400 bags of assorted fertilizer to farmers in Zango Kataf Local Government Area.
Speaking during the flag-off, Magaji said the distribution of the fertilizer to farmers in his constituents was part of an effort to tackle food insecurity in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We have to provide these fertilizers to our local farmers as a way of mitigating the impact of food insecurity in the region.
“My constituency is an agrarian one, hence the need to support my people with fertilizers, and this gesture is in line with my philosophy of eradicating poverty and hunger in my constituency.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has crippled the economy, there is a need for our people to take agriculture more seriously as a source of livelihood,” he said.
Magaji announced plans to provide farmers in the area with irrigation inputs for them to engage in dry season farming immediately after the 2020 wet season.
He urged the government to ensure that fertilizer is sold to farmers at a subsidized rate to enable them to increase production.
In his remarks, District Head of Madakiya, David Kantiok, commended the federal lawmaker for the gesture.
Kantiok said the provision of the fertilizer was timely and would go a long way in helping farmers in the area.
According to reports the fertilizer would be distributed across the 21 wards that made up the constituency.
