Fire guts Kwara market, destroys seven shops
Early morning fire that ravaged Omu-Aran main market, Headquarter of Irepodun local government of Kwara state in the early hours of Saturday destroyed goods and burnt seven shops in the market.
Punch correspondent gathered that the fire incident in the market started around 2:00 am and was prevented from engulfing the 200 shops in the market by the quick intervention of the state fire service.
Though the cause of the fire incident was yet to be ascertained, the spokesman of the State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, said that it was likely to be from an electric spark in one of the shops.
He said,
“Today, the inferno was at Omu-Aran Main Market, Kwara State. The fire started around 2:00am and thanks to God that they were able to reach fire Brigade on time before the fire got escalated.
“Immediately the Kwara State Fire Service arrived, the fire was quickly put under control. This audacious performance of the Brigade has really made the entire people of Omu-Aran town enjoy and appreciate Kwara State Fire Service job even more.
“About seven shops were affected out of two hundred and thirty shops in the vicinity. The cause of fire outbreak was as a result of an electric spark in one of the affected shops”, he said.
