Day old baby boy found dead in Anambra hotel refuse dump
A day-old baby boy has been reportedly found dead in a hotel’s refuse dump in Anambra State( name withheld)
The baby it was gathered, was confirmed dead in a nearby hospital.
The baby was said to be dumped by yet-to-be-identified person(s)
The situation threw the community into bewilderment on Wednesday.
The Okpuno axis where the baby was allegedly dumped, our correspondent gathered, was a cluster area of students of a higher institution in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
He said the case was reported at B’Division of the Anambra State Police Command.
He stated, “At about 2:30 pm, there was a report at B’ Division Awka that a baby was dumped by unknown person at a refuse dump inside a container near a hotel.
“Following the report, police patrol team led by the DPO, Emma Ogbuanya rushed to the scene and discovered a baby boy of about a day old inside the container.
“Victim was photographed and confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
“Meanwhile, department of Environmental Sanitation was contacted; they arrived the scene and evacuated the corpse in order to avert health hazard to public living in the area.”
Mohammed said the Commissioner of Police in the state, John Abang, has ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
