Calabar: Gate electrocutes 11-year-old boy
An 11-year-old boy, Godspower Bassey Isemin, has been electrocuted at Atamunu street in Calabar South.
Sources said he was electrocuted by the gate on which he was leaning while washing his clothes in their home.
It was gathered that a high tension wire snapped from an electric pole and fell on the gate which electrocuted him.
An eyewitness, Usang Bassey, who knew the boy, said he was a younger brother to a budding actress named Esther Whyte Bassey Isemin.
Bassey narrated what happened, “He was just leaning on the gate to wash his clothes and this time there was no light (power supply). When PHEDC brought power, one of the wires on the pole by the gate fell and immediately seized the boy.
“It took efforts by Donald, his elder brother, the only one who was at home at the time to disengage him from the high-tension gate.
“Donald did all he could to save the life of his brother. He rushed him to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital but could not get immediate medical attention needed, only for a doctor to declare Godspower dead moments after.”

The late Isemin’s distraught elder sister, Esther Whyte, in her reaction said “I’m so broken. He didn’t deserve it. The last time I spoke with him, Godspower said he wanted me to be a star.”
The state Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, did not respond to calls and text message when contacted on the issue.
