A young boy who was allegedly poured hot water by his mother for using the proceeds from the sale of sachet water to buy biscuit has been enrolled in a school by some kind-hearted Nigerians.
WuzupNigeria reported two weeks ago that the boy was rescued by an activist, Harrison Gwamnishu of Behind Bars Initiative (BBI), popular for rescuing victims of child abuse, rape and advocating for human rights.
The incident reportedly occurred at Nkpor in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State.
Harrison took to his Facebook page on Tuesday to share an update about the boy.
Recall that he had called on Nigerians to come to the boy’s aid in order to send him to school.
He shared photos of the boy in school uniform and wrote:
“Remembered his story, two weeks ago, he was hawking sachet water in the street of Nkpor with burnt hand. A phone call saved him from further labour.
“He was out of school and hawking for the mother before she boiled hot water and poured on his hand for taking money from part of his daily sales to buy food.
“We called for public opinion, the mother was arrested, detained, released and cautioned to be of good behaviour. (Monitoring team will be visiting the family weekly).
“Today, we registered the boy in school and will continue to support him.
“Abuse and neglect hit kids hard andaabused indigent children are in no shape to defend themselves.”
Harrison in a post on his page on January 30 had narrated that the victim hawks sachet water for his mother at Nkpor.
He added that despite the injuries on the boy’s hand, the mother insisted that the boy must hawk without treating him of his injuries.
