Coronavirus: 1,153 cured as confirmed cases rise to 28,018
No fewer than 19 foreigners have been infected by the Coronavirus disease in China as confirmed cases reached 28,018 on Wednesday.
About 1,153 patients had been cured, and discharged from the hospital, including two foreigners who contracted the disease.
China’s National Health Commission said it had received 28,018 reports of confirmed Coronavirus cases and 563 deaths on the Chinese mainland.
It stated that there still remained 24,702 suspected cases.
The Press Officer, China Embassy in Nigeria, Sun Saixiong, in an update in Abuja on Thursday, disclosed that 186,354 persons who had close contact with infected patients are under observation.
The statement said, “The number of confirmed infections in the China’s Hong Kong (21, including one death) and Macao (10) special administrative regions and Taiwan province (11) had risen to 42 in total, according to the commission.
Meanwhile, Chinese authorities have placed 761 patients on clinical trials on the antiviral drug, Remdesivir, which had previously shown good antiviral activity against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome and Middle-East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus in previous cell and animal experiments.
The registration for clinical trials has been approved, and the first batch of pneumonia patients infected by the novel coronavirus was expected to start taking the drug on Thursday.
In domestic research, the drug had reportedly shown fairly good antiviral activity against the 2019-nCoV at the cellular level.
President Xi Jinping expressed the confidence that his country has the capability to win the battle against the coronavirus disease.
